Revelation: The Gateway to Love

I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you. (Ephesians 1:17-19)

The Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.
... that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened.

Paul kept asking for these things through prayer. Those who have seen Christ through revelation frequently do the same thing. Outside of the Lord's prayer, I do not know of a more powerful prayer than this one.

Why revelation, you may ask? Well, as it turns out, revelation brings us directly in contact with God and His heart of never-failing love. T. Austin-Sparks explains the essential purpose of revelation very well:

Behind everything in this universe, as we know it, there are occasions, causes, reasons, explanations, meanings, things which demand answers, and the Holy Spirit's work, among other things, and one of His primary works, is to reveal those meanings, those reasons, those explanations, and lead us to the why and wherefore of things in the mind of God. All that explanation is bound up in the very Person of the Lord Jesus. He is the personification of God's reason, the explanation and the answer to the things which lie behind this universe. God's answers are not verbal answers, God's explanations are not in words. God's full answer is in a Person, and it is therefore the revelation of Jesus Christ which gets behind everything and gives us the key to everything; that answers every question and imparts all the knowledge that is necessary for us to have in order that we may come into perfect oneness with God.

Revelation of Christ Jesus gives us the key to everything - EVERYTHING! Revelation connects us with God through the Holy Spirit. We become one with God through revelation.

There are a great many people who have faith in God and faith in Jesus. Faith is wonderful and essential. But we need more than faith to enter into Christ - we need love. Revelation is the gateway to love. Without love, we are nothing. The Spirit told the Corinthians through Paul:

If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing (1 Corinthians 13:2).

Revelation provides the essential ingredient - love - to know Christ. Revelation allows us to know...

the working of his mighty strength, which he exerted in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every title that can be given, not only in the present age but also in the one to come (Ephesians 1:19-21).

Through revelation we know the power of the Cross - the absolute necessity of becoming a new creation through crucifixion on the cross. Revelation leads us through the narrow gate and toward the path to life. Revelation allows us to abandon our wills, kill and bury all the baggage from our past, and allow God to resurrect us with His never-failing love - the very same love that brought Jesus back from the dead. Revelation produces heaven on earth - Christ in our hearts. Through revelation, we shine.

God reveals Christ - his true expression of love - through revelation. Revelation follows directly from falling on the stone and becoming utterly broken. Saul of Tarsus saw Christ through revelation. Mary, John, Peter and the other disciples saw through revelation. T. Austin Sparks saw Christ through revelation. So did Oswald Chambers, Watchman Nee, Paramhansa Yogananda, and many others. All of these people had one thing in common - they all fell on the stone, were utterly broken, and saw Christ through revelation.

Oh, to see Christ. What a miracle! It changes everything! It is key! Sparks is right on the money:

"the revelation of Jesus Christ ... gives us the key to everything."

Without that key, we are unable to see and unable to hear. We are spiritually blind and deaf. There are many people today who are spiritually blind and deaf. A good many of those have great faith in the Lord and call themselves Christians. But they have not seen. God hasn't revealed His Son to them yet through revelation. Nevertheless, there is hope - there is great hope!!! for everybody, no matter how dark their hearts are today.

Revelation is the gateway to love.

Have you seen Christ Jesus? Has God revealed Him to you?

If not, may God may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know Him.

Agape,

Steve

Never wishing to 'throw the baby out with the bathwater', so to speak, -it never even occurred to me to doubt the veracity of "Jesus Christ", -nevertheless, I wondered about Barabbas instead.

Named "Jesus" according to the original Gospel of Matthew, but omitted from the Latin translation of the same text and most of the sub-sequent translations thereafter, and called "Barabbas", -an Aramaic appellation, the meaning of which is: Bar = Son + Abba = Father (or God).

After learning this much, sadly learning more -much to my embarrassment and eventual anger over my own gullibility in trusting my 'Church Fathers' regarding the truth of the Gospels.

You correctly touch upon the single, most important, aspect of any search for truth... love.

If it were not for 'love' (of God, of myself) and forgiveness towards my 'teachers', I would never know "Jesus, the Son of God [Barabbas]" and/or understand the facts surrounding the crucifixion of 'descendant of David' and Jewish 'messiah' who unsuccessfully sought to overthrow the secular governance of Herod and re-establish the ancient theocracy of his forefather... which, had been rejected since the days of Rehoboam.

Love indeed conquers all.
